THE KOREAN BELL OF FRIENDSHIP

The Korean Bell of Friendship is a large bronze bell located in San Pedro, California. It was a gift from the South Korean government to the United States in 1976, to celebrate the bicentennial of the United States and to honor American veterans of the Korean War. The bell was designed and cast in South Korea by some of the country's finest craftsmen, and then shipped to the United States.

The bell is housed in a stone pavilion in Angels Gate Park, overlooking the Pacific Ocean and the Port of Los Angeles. The pavilion is decorated with intricate carvings and is modeled after a traditional Korean structure. Visitors can ring the bell by striking it with a large wooden log, which produces a deep, resonant sound that can be heard for miles.

Tips for visiting the Korean Bell of Friendship:

  • The bell is located in Angels Gate Park, which offers stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and the surrounding area. Be sure to bring a camera to capture the scenery.

  • The park has several hiking trails, picnic areas, and other attractions, so plan to spend some time exploring the area.

  • Admission to the bell and the park is free, but parking is limited and can be challenging, especially on weekends. Consider taking public transportation or arriving early to secure a spot.

  • The bell is rung on special occasions, such as New Year's Eve and Korean Independence Day. Check the park's website for information about upcoming events.

  • Respect the bell and the pavilion, and avoid touching or climbing on them.
